A 43-year-old Gary, Ind., man is in custody in connection to the death of one woman found in Hammond, Ind., and three women found in Gary over the weekend, police said. The victims, who have not yet been identified, were all found in different locations. |
Police said a man is in custody in connection to the deaths of four women.
A Gary, Ind., man's confession in the slaying of one woman has led police to the bodies of three more women in a different town, police said.
Police brought a 43-year-old man into custody after they discovered a woman's body at about 9:30 p.m. Friday at a Motel 6 in Hammond, Indiana, Lt. Rich Hoyda said.
The suspect, whose name has not been released because he has not been charged, confessed to the Hammond slaying and told detectives where other victims could be found in Gary, Ind.
Police then found three women, all in different abandoned homes late Saturday and early Sunday, ABC7 reported. One of the bodies found had decomposed.
The victims have not yet been identified.
Police said they do not know if the deaths were connected and have not confirmed whether the deaths were homicides.
"First we have to identify the people, then we have to do the timeline backwards to the last time somebody saw them, who was the last person they were with," Cpl. Gabrielle King of the Gary Police Department told ABC7. "We don't know by what means they died."
The coroner's office said the first Gary woman was found wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, three rings on her finger and a belly ring, NBC Chicago reported. A second woman wore a green hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, and a third female wore blue jeans and white Nike shoes.
Hammond and Gary detectives continue to investigate the case together.
The Lake County coroner will perform autopsies to determine a cause of death and help identify victims.
