Nollywood Prolific director Amaka Igwe passes on(dead)

Foremost producer, writer, director and a leading player in the Nigerian motion picture industry, Amaka Igwe has passed on. She



died last night April 28th in Enugu after an asthma attack. Mrs Igwe had gone to Enugu in company of her husband for pre-production preparations for a new Igbo soap when the sad incident occurred.

She suffered an asthma attack and was immediately rushed to the hospital but died before getting there.

Mrs Igwe is survived by her husband of 21 years Charles Igwe, three children, an aged mother. So sad! May her soul rest in peace…amen.

These are the faces of some of the people causing terror in Nigeria. These 17 men you see above are Fulani Herdsmen who were recently captured by the military. They were part of the group that terrorized residents in Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba and Zamfara recently. They also took part in the recent killing of hundreds of people and burning of houses in Wukari, Taraba state. After their capture, they confessed to being members of the Boko Haram sect.

Actor Cuba Gooding's wife files for divorce after 20 years of marriage

Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr's wife of 20 years has filed for separation citing irreconcilable differences.

TMZ reports that Sara Kapfer, Cuba's high school sweetheart, filed yesterday April 22nd in L.A. County Superior Court. The two married in 1994 and have three children together.

Sara wants joint legal and physical custody of their kids and isn't asking for child support currently.

Gunmen kill 50 in fresh attack in Taraba

Unknown gunmen yesterday struck residents of Gidan Aku community on the outskirts Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State killing no fewer than 50 people with many seriously injured.

According to reports, the men who stormed the area with sophisticated weapons allegedly came in from Nassarawa state and attacked the residents while they were sleeping. They set the whole place on fire forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

An eyewitness and also a lawyer in the community, Luka Agbu said no security officer came to their rescue during the attack

In the wake of the Nyanya bomb blast which occurred on Monday April 14th, which killed over 80 people, military checkpoints have been mounted at various strategic road junctions to check human and vehicular activities in the FCT.

 

Motorists/workers say these checkpoints have become a big problem for them as they lose many useful hours in traffic with some of them getting late to work and receiving queries.

Prophet in police net over false prophecy

Alphonsus Ezie, a 56year old prophet with the Celestial Church of Christ Igando District, Lagos State has been arrested and remanded in prison by the police for tricking his congregation with a false prophecy, PM news reports.

Prophet Ezie had on a Sunday service prophesied seeing some members of his congregation traveling to Netherland for greener pastures and coming back home successful. He asked all those interested in making the prophecy fulfilled in their lives to meet with his friend, Mr Samuel, a travel agent, to help them with their travel papers. NFF issues Stephen Keshi query

The national team coach is facing questions over his decision to attend Tuesday's media roundtable instead of participating in the technical committee's proceedings in Abuja

The Nigeria Football Federation is set to clash with Stephen Keshi over the coach's failure to attend Tuesday's technical committee meeting in Abuja.

The Super Eagles trainer had instead chosen to attend a reception and media roundtable organised by national team sponsors TomTom in Lagos.

The NFF has issued a query to the trainer in which it has also asked him to respond to other issues including missing the reception by the president in February and travelling without informing the federation.

"It is important we draw your attention to previous actions whereby you travel out of Nigeria without NFF's express permission," the NFF wrote to Keshi in a letter widely circulated in the media.

"Specifically, you travelled out of Nigeria before 13 February 2014, the day President Jonathan received the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) team, causing us huge embarrassment.

Reports in some domestic media today which quoted President Goodluck Jonathan as "confirming" in Amsterdam that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) wrongly withheld $10 Billion from the federation account  are completely false and a total distortion of the President's comments during his meeting with the Nigerian community in the Netherlands.
At no time during the well-attended reception did President Jonathan also confirm any "irregularities" in the NNPC.

Senate confirms Emefiele as new Central Bank Governor

The Senate this morning confirmed the appointment of Mr Godwin Emefiele as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Emefiele was the Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank before his new appointment. He replaces Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who was suspended by the Federal Government  on February 20th over allegations of financial recklessness and misconduct.

Court declares FRSC’s new number plates illegal in lagos

The new number plates introduced by the Federal Road Safety Commission, is unconstitutional, a Federal High Court in Lagos said today Wednesday March 26th.

A  man feigning to be mad was apprehended yesterday along Ring Road in Ibadan town by residents of the area who found human tongue and dangerous weapons on him.

Vanguard reports that his evil act was exposed when his hidden blackberry phone suddenly rang in public which aroused suspicion. He was immediately surrounded and searched. They allegedly found the human tongue, a cutlass and axe on him. Pic: Police officer knocks LASTMA official unconscious with his gun

A mobile policeman yesterday afternoon attacked three officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and knocked one unconscious following an argument along Ashabi Cole off Lateef Jakande road Agidingbi in Ikeja.

Trouble started when LASTMA officials attempted to tow a vehicle parked in front of a bank which was causing traffic. The police officers guarding the bank challenged the LASTMA officials and tried to prevent them from towing the vehicle which was said to belong to a bank customer. An arguement ensued and before anyone could stop it, one LASTMA official was rushed to the hospital after a police man gave him a head butt and smashed the butt of his gun into his face.

When other LASTMA officials saw what had happened to their colleague, they turned the whole scene into a free for all show as both parties started arguing and fighting.
Head of LASTMA confirmed the incident and said the unconscious official is receiving medical attention.

Oscar Pistorius selling home where he shot and killed his girlfriend

Oscar Pistorius's lawyer revealed today that the paralympian is planning to sell the house in which he killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, to enable him raise money for his legal fees which has been rapidly increasing since the commencement of his trial.

Reports say with all advertising deals closed up and none in sight, Oscar has been grappling with raising money to pay his legal team. He has since been selling off some of his other properties and some of his racehorses.

"It has become necessary to sell Mr. Pistorius’ home in the Silver Woods Country Estate in Pretoria in order for him to raise the necessary funds to cover his increasing legal costs. Chris Brown denied bail, ordered to remain in jail till April 23rd

Chris Brown was in court yesterday Monday March 17th to face a judge for violating his probation and by the end of his hearing, the judge denied him bail and ordered that he remains in jail until his next hearing...which is not until April 23rd. Ekiti State commissioner arrested for beating up NYSC member

Police in Ekiti has arrested the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Kayode Olaosebikan, for questioning over the beating up of a NYSC member at a registration unit in Otun Ekiti, Moba LGA of the state, Vanguard reports.

Olaosebikan (pictured above), who is also the Chairman, NYSC board in the state, was seen at the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, making his statement.

Olaosebikan allegedly beat up a youth corps member, Mr. Thompson Enobong, NYSC number EK/13c/1859, who is one of the NYSC members assisting INEC in the just-concluded registration.

Obesere's marriage still intact despite rape accusation

There were reports last week that Obesere's marriage was in trouble after a woman accused him of rape. Obesere said it wasn't rape, but consensual sex. Thing is, he's married and if it was indeed consensual sex, then it means he committed adultery...but despite that revelation, a close friend of the fuji musician said that although his wife was angry about the report, his marriage is still intact.

"His wife does not stay in Nigeria but in Ireland with the children. She comes into the country every three months to check on her husband. According to a TMZ report, Chris Brown was arrested in Malibu yesterday after getting kicked out of rehab for violating rules...

Ambassador Ralph Uwechue, one-time president of Ohaneze- Ndigbo, a pan-Igbo sociocultural body, has died. Chief Wechue died yesterday afternoon March 13th at an Abuja hospital.

Elected in November 2008 to head Ohaneze, Chief Uwechue was a envoy leader during the Obasanjo administration where he supervised conflict resolutions in Africa and was also appointed to lead the ECOWAS Peace mission in Cote d’Ivoire.

An illustrious son of Ogwashi Ukwu Delta state, Chief Uwechue was aged 79. May his soul rest in peace...amen.

Gov Peter Obi rewards 1st Class Anambra graduates with N1m each

Yesterday at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Anambra state, Anambra Governor Peter Obi presented a cheque of N160 million which is to be disbursed to 160 first class graduates who are origins of the state. The Governor said it was a gesture by his administration to encourage undergraduate students to strive for academic excellence.

He directed that none of the recepients should be given cash but the money should be paid into their various accounts for better utilization.
