Chibok Boy confesses to setting houses ablaze in Borno village for N2,000

  A young Chibok boy named Ibrahim Tilitili has confessed to razing a few houses in his small village in Mandara Girau village in Biu LGA of Borno state, Vanguard reports. Ibrahim later claimed a man named Mallam Sani, also a resident of the village, gave him N2,000 to carry out the arson.

Ibrahim had set three houses ablaze, had caused serious panic and was getting ready to destroy more homes when some brave villagers apprehended him when they realized it was a lone attack.

The youths had wanted to lynch the young boy when elders in the village intervened and he was instead arrested and taken to Sarkin Baka- renown hunter in Biu town, where he confessed to being instructed to set the houses ablaze. He then led the vigilante in the area to the man who claimed asked him to do it. Both were arrested and handed over to police in Biu town.

Boko Haram attacks Nigerian military base, 24 personnel feared killed

   BBC reports that gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram this evening around 5pm attacked a security base in Buni Yadi, in Gujba LGA killing 24 officials. Residents of the area said the victims include 13 soldiers and 11 police officers and said the gunmen came in 10 Hilux vans, an armoured tank, and several motorcycles.

BBC Hausa Service reports that the gunmen told residents of the area to stay indoors as their target were the security personnel in the town.

The men then proceeded to attack the military base, a local government secretariat and burnt down several buildings.

              Nigeria's Chief of Defense Staff Air Marshall Alex Badeh today said that the Nigeria military has been able to locate the 200+ girls abducted in Chibok on April 14th but will not use force to rescue them because that could put the girls in great danger as the insurgents could kill them.

He revealed this today while addressing a group of protesters, the Citizens Initiative for Security Awareness, outside the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. He said the military knows what they are doing and should be allowed to continue their work

"We want our girls back. The military can do it, but where they are held, can we go with force? The good news for the girls is that we know where they are but we can't tell you. Just leave us alone. We are working. We will bring the girls back" He said

Nigeria’s Special Forces from the Army’s 7th Division have sighted and narrowed the search for the more than 250 abducted Chibok schoolgirls to three camps operated by the extremist Boko Haram sect north of Kukawa at the western corridors of the Lake Chad, senior military and administration officials have said.
“It has been a most difficult but heroic breakthrough,” one senior military official said in Abuja.
That claim was supported by another senior commander from the Army’s 7th Division, the military formation created to deal with the insurgency in the Northeast. The 7th Division is headquartered in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Missing Chibok Girls: US to send troops to Chad

President Barack Obama has directed the deployment of 80 members of its armed forces to Chad to help in the search for the kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls, CNN reports. In a letter sent to members of the US National Assembly, the US president said the armed troops will be involved in maintaining aircraft and analyzing data

"These personnel will support the operation of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft for missions over northern Nigeria and the surrounding area. The force will remain in Chad until its support in resolving the kidnapping situation is no longer required."According to a senior official, the troops deployment is not based on any new intelligence leads

University of Jos just announced that they lost 15 students at yesterday's twin bomb blasts that left over 200 people dead. Eight of those students were final year medical students. Too sad!

I OK, apparently the bomb explosion that occurred this afternoon at the densely populated Terminus Market near Murtala Mohammed way in Jos is more serious than we thought. The twin explosion, which occurred 30 minutes apart, reportedly killed at least 200 people according to eye-witnesses, making it deadlier than the Nyanya blast.

The bomb was planted in two cars, a Peugeot J5 van and a Toyota Sienna SUV with a Gombe state license plate number. Eye-witnesses said the car had been parked near the busy market since early this morning and had even drawn the curiosity of people in the area who allegedly alerted the police. Bangladesh ferry with 200 occupants capsides 9 bodies recovered

  Weeks after a ferry capsized in South Korea killing almost 300 people, another ferry has capsized with 200 passengers on board. A Bangladeshi ferry capsized today May 15th following strong winds as it sailed through the Meghna river at Rasulpur in Munshiganj district near the capital, Dhaka.

Nine bodies have so far been recovered including those of women and children, according to police, with more bodies expected to be recovered in the coming days. Some of the passengers managed to swim to the shore of the river. Rescue operation has been going on since the disaster happened.

GEJ cancels planned trip to Chibok, heads to Paris for security summit

 

              

President Jonathan has cancelled his planned trip to Chibok, Borno State, the small town where over 200 girls were abducted about a month ago. He was scheduled to visit the place today May 16th but instead is attending the Africa Security Summit which is holding in Paris today.
